Grooming Large Dog Breeds
I saw a Saint Bernard being walked through the park the other day, and it was a well-mannered, beautiful dog. It’s coat was thick and fluffy and after getting over the urge to pet it, I began to consider how much time it takes to groom a dog of that size.
Time constraints are a constant concern for groomers. Obviously, the larger breeds will take a little longer to groom.
If they are in good condition already, most long-haired breeds of smaller size, such as the toy poodle, can be adequately groomed in an hour and a half.
Larger breeds, such as the cocker spaniel, should be given about two and a half hours.
However, if you’re dealing with an animal whose fur is matted and whose coat has been neglected for some time, an extra hour or even two may be needed, depending on the dog’s size.
Regardless of the dog, it’s important to take your time and do a thorough, careful job. The more time you spend on the initial job, the easier it will be the next time. You’ll also find happier dogs and more repeat customers!
