Dog Grooming Courses Help Tangled Fur

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

I saw this the other day:  “Our dog has a long, silky coat, and she is always getting mats, even though we try to stay on top of the grooming. I’m a little nervous about trying to cut them out. What can I do? I’m sure she’s uncomfortable.”

I hear you on the grooming front. I have two longhaired dogs, Clara and Ilario. Ilario has a rougher coat texture that resists matting, but Clara has a silky, long fur.  Taking courses for grooming really teaches you how to care for these types of difficult to groom animals.  Regularly brushing are important, but there are even products, that when used sparingly, can be very helpful in preventing matts.  Once they’re in there, sometimes cutting is necessary, so regular, preventative grooming is your best bet.

Quit Day Job to Give Pet Grooming Courses

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

After much prayer and consulting with my husband, my friend went ahead and gave her 2 week notice at work yesterday. Her boss was pretty upset. Her boss gave her a huge guilt trip, but my friend pointed at that in the six months she’s been there her boss has had one MAJOR life event in her life right after another. So my friend finally decided she couldn’t handle it anymore! She explained her reasons for leaving and even offered to stay a couple of days a week until her position could be filled. Now she can follow her real dream, which is to open a pet grooming school. Go Roz!

Dog Grooming Course Graduate Gives Flaky Advice

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

If your cat or dog has dandruff, is it just a bad hair day?  Probably not.The three most common reasons for pet dandruff are allergies, parasites and inadequate nutrition. Pets need a proper balance of fats, proteins and other nutrients to keep their skin and fur healthy.  Dandruff can be a warning of many health problems, so if you notice your pooch or kitty is getting flaky, get them to the vet for a physical.

Make Your Pet Look Good On Paper – Grooming School Tips

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Those who have tried taking pictures of their puppies will all agree that it is not an easy feat. Your pet dog, especially the older ones, tends to move around a lot — making it almost impossible to get a quality puppy photo for your collection.  Ask around to local grooming schools to ask the experts how they handle wily puppies and dogs during grooming.  It’s necessary to have a dog be still to clip nails and trip hair around the face, so they’re likely to have a lot of good tips!

Are there dog grooming courses on customer relations?

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Perhaps I shouldn’t have answered the phone at 5:58, but obviously I wasn’t thinking clearly.

The lady seemed surprised I was still there, and said she was interested in an appointment for her labradoodle which was desperately in need of grooming.

“It’s matted?” I asked.

“Yes, pretty bad,” she admitted.

“How old is it, about a year old?” I asked.

“No, she’s about four actually.” she answered.

“Oh, well it can’t be the puppy coat change, I guess we can only attribute it to owner negligence.” I calmly commented.

Click.

Uh, she hung up! Did I say that out loud? I called her back and apologized and she hung up on me again.

I can only hope she is one of the ones I wanted to get away…

Dog groom courses– on teeth brushing

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

I got this response from my other blog post about teeth brushing, wanted to share with y’all:

—————————–

Personally, I think teeth brushing is a rip-off to the customer. I
know that they ask for it, but when we see the dogs AT MOST 1 time
every week or every other week, what we can do with a toothbrush is
not going to make one bit of difference. In order for teeth brushing
to be effective, it needs to be done more often than that. So not
only are you charging the customer for something that may make them
(the owners, not the pets) feel good, but you are also giving them a
false sense of security that they are taking care of their pet’s
dental health. Your clients would be better off if you would explain
this concept to them and sell them something (like Oxyfresh) that
they could do themselves on a more regular basis.
