Dog Grooming Course Graduate Gives Flaky Advice

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

If your cat or dog has dandruff, is it just a bad hair day?  Probably not.The three most common reasons for pet dandruff are allergies, parasites and inadequate nutrition. Pets need a proper balance of fats, proteins and other nutrients to keep their skin and fur healthy.  Dandruff can be a warning of many health problems, so if you notice your pooch or kitty is getting flaky, get them to the vet for a physical.

Steel vs Plastic Pet Grooming Supplies

‘blades’.  Maybe once in a great while one will see the light of day and beput on a clipper… but mostly it’s the #10 blade and a SS comb.

One thing with the SS combs:  you can NOT use a #40 blade under the SS combs.  The reason is simple:  the cutter of the #40 blade is set too far forward and will snag teeth on the SS combs. You can kiss your #40 blade good by if that happens. So besides changing to the SS combs, you will have to change out whatever blade you use (that is IF you are used to using a #40 blade with your snap on combs.) At first I was using a #30 under them, but my #10’s work just as well, and less changing blades on the clipper. Maybe I’ve just gotten lazy? Most of my dogs are fluffy, and with my clipper vac I can still get the same lengths pretty much the same as with a finish blade…so no use to use a “blade”.  So yes, maybe I am just getting lazy!

SS combs are by far better IMO than the plastic, so much so that I’ve don’t really even use most of my

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

Diane Aviles had big plans when she purchased 17 cages, two pet tubs, a grooming table and some cabinets. But in this economy, the funds just “weren’t there” to open up a pet grooming and boarding business. So Aviles decided to barter her equipment worth ,000 on Craigslist in exchange for a good-running RV. Many locals are doing the same during these tough economic times.

Make Your Pet Look Good On Paper – Grooming School Tips

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Those who have tried taking pictures of their puppies will all agree that it is not an easy feat. Your pet dog, especially the older ones, tends to move around a lot — making it almost impossible to get a quality puppy photo for your collection.  Ask around to local grooming schools to ask the experts how they handle wily puppies and dogs during grooming.  It’s necessary to have a dog be still to clip nails and trip hair around the face, so they’re likely to have a lot of good tips!

Weak Economy Affecting Grooming Schools

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Ellen O’Connor spends more time than ever now primping pets at Pampered Pet Inn. As the local economy has weakened, the owner of the West University pet grooming and boarding business has cut back on her workers’ hours, leaving her to pick up the slack.  It’s a shame to watch small businesses struggle this way.  So get your pet groomed!  Help out a local business!

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

For the dogs and cats who take up temporary residence in the year-old Riverside Humane Society Pet Adoption Center, their new quarters are like the Mission Inn compared to the old facility.  The old facility was more like a budget motel, said Ronna L. Kadow, executive director of the facility.  The animals will enjoy more room indoor and out at the new pad.  Even the lighting is better!
